The tradition of the Irish dance has changed with time to incorporate, as well as, reflect on the changing nature of populations and inclusion of new ways of life. This renders the history of Irish step dancing to be highly fascinating (Hall, p97). The common stage shows of the dance in the past decade have reinvigorated the step dance as cultural art. For the same reason, Irish step dancing is vibrant, healthy, and has aesthetics purposes for persons around the world.

The Gaelic League was developed to protect the various elements of the step dance. The main attention was the language, but they also planned for dance classes and competitions. This commission took the responsibility of developing and promoting the dance, as well as, came up with the framework of selecting adjudicators and teachers (Dils, p12).

The Dancing Master became very popular in the 18th century as a result of teaching the Irish step dance to the peasants. He traversed through various districts where he would provide the dance lessons at an affordable fee. The visit by the dancing master brought a lot of esteem and excitement in the parish (Abrams, p91).
