The 17th Century
History traces Irish Step dance up to the 17th century because the traditional Irish dancesand music faced interferences from Queen Elizabeth 1 during the 16th century.
The 18th Century
During this time, there was travelling of the transient masters to teach local youth from town to town. The masters trained the youth on reel, jig, and hornpipe.
The 19th century
In 1893, the formation of Conradh na Gaeilge, reinvented or improved the traditional standardized Irish Step Dance, especially its control and the selection of the dance movements.
The 20th Century
There was Gaelic League appointment of the Irish Dance Commission in 1929, which enhanced control of the Irish Step Dance. The appointment ensured that the commission regulated and required all Irish dance teachers to register.
